Edinburgh Open Workshop is a not-for-profit, social enterprise created for the Edinburgh community to have a place to make and get messy.
Founded in 2017 by a group of friends and colleagues, all of whom have backgrounds in the creative industries. They saw the value and empowerment of having a makerspace, that is in a central location and provides facilities, equipment, tuition and community.
Having access to professional standard woodwork, metalwork, textiles and painting facilities, along with a range of tuition is something they believed should be available to all.
From this vision Edinburgh Open Workshop was created, built on a pay-as-you-go model – offering membership-based access to a fully equipped wood, metal, paint, and textiles workshop. We also have long term resident maker space, art studios, along with a creative learning and outreach program of classes and workshops.
